Day of service picture

Forest Park School District 91, in partnership with the Forest Park PTO, came together for an incredible Day of Service on January 20 at Grant White Elementary School. This annual tradition, started by our Forest Park PTO is held in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, brings our community together to give back and support those in need right here in Forest Park. Dr. King reminded us that “everyone can be great because everyone can serve,” and yesterday we lived out that message.

Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers—students, families, staff, and community members—we successfully packed and donated 9,500 meals for local families. These non-perishable meals will be distributed through the Forest Park Community Fridge and the Pantry at the Howard Mohr Community Center, helping to combat food insecurity in our area. In addition to meal packaging, we also collected an incredible amount of toiletries and household supplies, which will be donated to the Forest Park Library Comfort Cabinet to support those in need.

This meaningful event was made possible by Feed6, an organization that partners with schools, churches, corporations, and civic groups to organize meal-packaging events across the Chicagoland area. The meals we packed—a nutritious pasta entrée fortified with soy and vitamins—will provide essential nourishment for our neighbors facing food insecurity.

Service events like these are not only impactful but also bring us closer together as a community. They foster a spirit of unity and compassion, reinforcing the importance of giving back. We are grateful to everyone who participated and contributed, making this year’s Day of Service a true success.
