Read

Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

Read Across America offers limitless opportunities for involvement in children’s reading throughout the year. The year-round program can fit reading fun into your calendar daily, weekly, or monthly and includes big celebrations of reading on March 2 and throughout National Reading Month in March.

This week we had many unique events and activities for "Read Across America:

  • Betsy Ross hosted a "Read Across America" Spirit Week! Students enjoyed fun events and activities featuring a different story each day!

  • Garfield hosted it’s annual Family Read-In on Thursday evening, The event included interactive literacy games as well as take-home activities to continue the fun! Also this week all of the special area classrooms have been featuring fun literacy activities; including a "Book Tasting" in the library.

  • Field Stevenson hosted their "Read Men Read" initiative continued this year bringing in community and family guest readers to each classroom!

  • As a district, we hosted a Family Literacy Night for families in partnership with the West Suburban Reading Council. We welcomed author Kate Hannigan to our Forest Park Middle School from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

  • We also want to thank our Forest Park PTO who coordinated our successful Scholastic Book Fair this past month! Allowing families to join in on all of the reading FUN!

Let us continue to grow with our love of reading as it is part of our learning and achievement district priority. Way to Read D91!
